Requirements and Examples
- Electrical plans must be submitted as part of the application for the building permit, ie., must
be included with the Structural, Architectural, Plumbing and Mechanical plans at the time of submittal.
A minimum of two sets of electrical plans is required.
- Minimum Electrical Plan Requirements
- On each sheet of the plans, please provide:
- the job address, including suite or building number(s);
- the type of occupancy, eg., office, market, auto repair, ...
- the name, address and phone number of the person designing the electrical system;
- the date of the drawing;
- for systems larger than 200 Amps, the license number and wet signature of a State of California
licensed electrical engineer.
- Please provide a plot plan showing the location of the building with respect to the property lines
and other buildings and showing the electrical distribution equipment serving the building.
(Example Plot Plan)
- Please provide a floor plan showing: (Example
Floor Plans)
- the location of the electrical distribution equipment (panels and switchboards);
- the locations of all electrical outlets and fixtures;
- the circuit numbers (coordinated with the panel schedules) for the outlets and fixtures;
- the size of all conduits and conductors.
- Please provide panel schedules that include:
(Example Panel Schedules)
- the voltage, phase and bus ampacity;
- circuit description and numbering coordinated with the floor plan;
- circuit loads coordinated with the equipment and fixture schedules and with the floor plan;
- descriptions of the overcurrent protection for each circuit;
- the interrupting ratings of the circuit breakers therein;
- a sum of the load at each panel per the California Electrical Code.
- Please provide load calculations for existing and new loads. (This requirement may be satisfied
by the above requirements for panel schedules.)
- Please provide a single-line diagram showing:
(Example Single-Line Diagram)
- building disconnecting means;
- all distribution equipment;
- all feeders and overcurrent protection for such;
- the available short circuit current at each panel or switchboard;
- the interrupting ratings for all overcurrent devices;
- transformer kVA ratings, voltage ratios and %Z.
- On the plans, please provide California Energy Efficiency forms
LTG-1 and LTG-2.
- (Example LTG-1 and LTG-2)
- Electrical Plan Requirements for State-Approved Coaches
- Please provide a plot plan showing the locations of the proposed coaches and of the electrical
distribution equipment. (Example Plot Plan)
- Please provide a single-line diagram showing: (Example
Single-Line Diagram)
- the service switchboard and distribution equipment;
- the building disconnecting means;
- the coach feeders and the overcurrent protection for such feeders;
- the available short circuit current at each panel or switchboard;
- the interrupting rating of all overcurrent devices;
- transformer kVA ratings, voltage ratios and %Z.
- Please represent the load constituted by the coaches, preferably with panel schedules.
(Example Panel Schedule) If the coaches are to be fed from
existing electrical distribution equipment, please quantify the existing load on such equipment.
On each sheet of the plans, please include:
- the job address;
- the proposed use and occupancy of the coaches;
- the date of the drawing;
- the name, address and phone number of the electrical designer;
- for systems larger than 200 Amps, the license number and wet signature of a State of
California licensed electrical engineer.
