Current & Advance Planning Services serve the general public, applicants, and other County
departments in a consistent and fair manner to maintain and create a viable living environment.
Our core business is to process private development projects consistent with our general plan,
zoning and requirements of State and Federal law. We serve both current, and through stewardship
of the physical environment and regional planning, future residents of Orange County.
Current & Advance Planning Service Goals
- Process administrative and discretionary permits in an accurate and timely manner.
- Assist County departments, other agencies, and private sector in compliance with State
and Federal regulatory programs.
- Support regional planning efforts.
- Maintain and enhance the Geographic Information System mapping capabilities.

Current & Advance Planning Services
The Current & Advance Planning Services Division is responsible for the daily planning activities of the
Planning and Development Services. Managed by John Buzas, Current & Advance Planning is responsible for
activities such as County demographics, maintenance of County excavation and grading policies, and other similar
special projects. Current & Advance Planning consists of the following sections: Site Planning, Consistency
Management, Subdivision and Advance Planning.
The Advance Planning Section is located on the third floor of the 300 N. Flower Street building and is
responsible for the following:
- General Plan amendments and updates.
- Demographics Data - incorporations, annexations and projections.
- Local Agency Formation Commision coordination of comments and conditions.
- Maintenance of Williamson Act files for agricultural lands.
- Air Quiality program coordination and implementation of AB 2766 projects.
In addition, the Advance Planning Section provides support services for a range of other entities including:
- GIS Mapping Services.
- Development Agreement coordination.
- Planning information and coordination.
- Hazard Mitigation Planning.
- Census support.
- Legislation Review.
